Gaming the Battle Pics of Warhammer 3rd Edition

With none of the other privates around for gaming these days, I decided I'm going to indulge myself in playing out some of my favourite pictures from 3rd edition Warhammer.   I will set up a table matching a picture and begin the game from that moment.  I am going to start with the photo on page 138 (and 8-9, 16-17), "Elven Elites Protect Their General".   This will continue on the other blog - http://theprivateseternal.blogspot.ca

My Personal Uberhammer

I'm looking forward to playing a solo game of Warhammer tonight.   But what edition?  They are all great, and each one offers its own unique gaming experience.   I also enjoy taking what I like from one edition and adding it to another.  This usually drives the other privates crazy, but it's all in the pursuit of the uber Warhammer adventure.

Mmm, Uberwarhammer!

Uberhammer!

I think at this moment my Uberhammer would be to use sixth edition as the core rule set and add the manouevre/advanced formations rules from 3rd, the Magic from 5th (I'm still into those cards!), the fire and flee as well as the column rules from Warhammer Ancients, and the horde, 2nd rank and stomp rules from 8th.  This would of course be all packaged in a beat-up hardcover with the font and feel of 1st edition, with beautiful action photos of classic miniatures from ALL fantasy miniatures-makers from the 70's and 80's.   Yeah, this is my personal Uberhammer.

This will continue on the privates eternal blog...

Slaanesh and Tzeentch Settle it Soviet Style

As I was biking home from work last night, I was torn between wanting to play with some tanks or play a solo game of Warhammer 5th edition.  (I know 5th is not the current cool kids' One, but it still falls roughly under the Oldhammer banner, I think.  And besides, I'm obsessed with it at the moment.)(It's all about the Cards, Man.)  Then it dawned on me - why not play a Warhammer 5th game with tanks!!!  Yes!  I peddled home as fast as I could, kissed the wife and kid goodnight, then ran into the garage to stat out a bunch of Soviet Post-war/Cold war stuff ala Warhammer 5.

In one of the Realms of Chaos, Slaanesh and Tzeentch were having another one of their endless disputes over who is the cooler deity.   This time they will settle it Soviet Style!

AAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I just tried to upload my pictures and blogger is telling me I have used up my limit!!!

But Blogger, there are T-55's and T-72's battling it out in a very blue/purple realm while Slaanesh and Tzeentch cackle in the background!

I can't get these pictures on!!!!

Perhaps this is a true Chaos experience...

Pictures from an Aborted Game

Was supposed to introduce Private N. to Warhammer last night.  I was toying with having it be 5th edition but then at the last minute settled on 6th (to make the Magic phase faster).  But regardless, the game never fully happened.  Still managed some pictures.  Especially of The Major's beautiful Dark Elves.

The Daemons have been Driven Away!

The Empire is saved!

The Empire/Daemon series ended tonight with a 4000 pointer, and a clear victory for the good guys.

Although it certainly didn't start way.  My turn one saw the loss of Faustus, my Level IV wizard, a unit of hand-gunners and the Helblaster.

Turn Two and my Flagellants, two Cannons and the General's Griffon all vanished.

But like all good Warhammer games, things started to turn around.  It began with my Greatswords taking out Prof. Elf's Hounds.   Then it just got better.

P.S. - The Kid's idea for some psychological warfare to scare away the Daemons.

It worked.

5th Edition Warhammer

Bursting with near-crazed excitement I played a game of 5th Edition last night.  I feel that the poor 4th and 5th takes on Warhammer Fantasy always get overlooked by us Warhammer freaks.   This is a shame really, because it is a blast to pull out and play with the chunky, goofy sculpts of that period.  Plus that was when being a character really meant something!  And the Magic Phase has magic cards!

So The Czarina and her escort were on the way to Altdorf when they were stopped by Zak-Ar-Rac the Crazy and his posse of Chaos Dwarfs (and Manticore).

Rancor on the Rampage!

A fun Star Wars game with The Kid this afternoon.

Members of The Jedi Council report that the planet of Booba 5 has been overrun by escaped creatures!

And that a Rancor is on the Rampage!

The 501st, with Jedi support, is dispatched to the planet.

The Jedis begin to get things under control.

But the Rancor is on the Rampage!!!!!

It is all to much for the Jedis and the members of the 501st.

(I'm not even going to mention the Mutant Grasshoppers...)

Daemons Running Free in The Empire

The 2000 point game in the Empire/Daemon campaign.  Our regular 7th/8th combo.  The battle was a real back and forth affair, but still, these Daemons!  How do you beat them?

In the end, one-on-one combat decides it.   My brave Warrior Priest accepts the challenge...

...knowing that Nurgle has 10 wounds(!!!), is Toughness 6, and has a 5+ Ward save and oh, Regeneration!

We will all remember my brave Warrior Priest.

There's a Zoat on Syrofoamia

No music tonight.  Luckily was able to bring Private N. over for a game.  Introduced him to Rogue Trader.

Seems a Zoat was seen on Syrofoamia.

The Squats (don't call us Squats) want the Zoat.  They need the Zoat.

But so do the Orks.

Reason enough for a fight?

Hanging Out In Wittenlausstein

The little Empire town of Wittenlausstein seems to be a popular rest stop for armies biding their time between Warhammer Fantasy battles here in the Land of The Eternal Privates.

Many of these guys are also here because I wanted to put some 5th Edition Warhammer Fantasy armies together.  From out of nowhere I suddenly want to play 5th Edition!  Maybe it is a reaction to all of the recent excitement over 3rd Edition.  I don't know.  But bring on the magic cards.  Load up the characters, 'cause 5th is coming back to town.  Well, at least the little town of Wittenlausstein.

And then, because I am all over the place, I've also been putting together a 3rd Edition Norse army.

Warhammer!

The Invasion of Bretonnia

It was a real treat to play an afternoon game today.  And it was also very nice to be playing again with my good gaming mate, Private D.   He had brought his wonderful Bretonnian army with him.  I met him in Bretonnia with a High Elf Invasion force.  I don't really like High Elves but I was curious to play them.  (My Wood Elves stood in for the High Elves.)

The Elves were very aggressive.  The first turn saw them take out most of  the Bretonnian missile capability.

And then turn on the dreaded Bretonnia knights.

I had a real tooled-up list full of double-handed nastinesses and surprises.   Here are the Phoenix Guard.

The last two members of the Sword Masters.  The whole unit was decimated by Fay magic!

The Paladin charges Prince Wahoo on his funny Moon Dragon.

The Iron-willed Lady of The Stones and her unbreakable unit of bowmen.  This brave lot passed countless Panic and Psychology tests and generally drove me batty.

 The final combat.

Soon there will be no more Bretonnians on the field.

A very great game.

P.S. - This was a pure 7th Edition game.
